Merchant of the Devil
Hell is empty, all the devils are here . This week we are releasing Merchant of the Devil. It’s a release that has been 16 year’s in the making. Back in 2005 KHM was a budding homebrewer making his way as a cheesemonger. His pride and joy was an imperial stout called Merchant of the Devil. The annual BrewNZ event included a homebrew competition and ‘The Merchant’ placed. Sketchy memories and non-existent web records mean we are unsure whether it took second or third place but the point is the recipe has been around a long time. Last year we dusted off the brew records, and produced 1000L of the beer and vatted it in two 500L oak puncheons with Brettanomyces . The result is a traditional English style imperial stout singing with brown malt toastiness, resinous herbal hops and a big dose of barrel funk. Hearty and hefty and made to go with the cheeseboard.
10.2% ABV.
