Behold, Balvenie’s fifth batch of its Tun 1509, a fantastic single malt from the distillery in Speyside, which sees a host of casks selected to be married together in the eponymous Tun 1509. For this one, the lucky casks selected to be married together were ten bourbon barrels, eight sherry hogsheads, three refill American oak casks and eight sherry butts.
Nose: Sherried peels, acacia honey, a touch of new leather, raspberry eau de vie, earthy malt and brown sugar.
Palate: Vanilla ice cream with raspberry sauce and topped with crushed nuts. Juicy apple and apricot, put a slow build of sweet spices.
Finish: Red berries, a smidge of toasted oak, stem ginger.
